GENTOKU. Grand et vif netsuke, très tôt d’époque, représentant le général chargeant avec son cheval, droit en avant, à travers les vagues. Non signé. 5 cm. Japon Epoque Edo (1603-1868) XVIIIe siècle. Le visage rappelle celui trouvé dans un groupe de netsuke en ivoire représentant Shoki, lors de la première vente Bushell, Chrisitie’s Londres, 27 octobre 1987, lot 119. Un exemplaire assez proche est également conservé au V&A Museum de Londres portant la référence A.741-1910.
Netsuke of Gentoku A large and spirited early netsuke, the general charging forward through the waves, urging his steed on with a whip Unsigned, early 18th century Length: 5 cm The face is reminiscent of that found in a group of standing ivory netsuke of Shoki, for example one in the first Bushell sale, Christies London, 27th October 1987, lot 119. Also, a similar netsuke depicting Raiden, the god of wind, thunder and lightning, Japan, 19th century, carved ivory. Museum no. A.741-1910, is on the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
