Dessin à l’encre sur papier d’une grande finesse duquel on aperçoit au revers des inscriptions calligraphiées. Œuvre représentant un cavalier en costume d’époque montant un cheval tacheté et cabré. Les représentations de marchands, de jésuites ou diplomates européens montés à cheval apparaissent avec l’arrivée de cette communauté internationale confinée à Deshima, une ancienne île artificielle située dans la baie de Nagasaki. Les artistes japonais y dépeignent avec curiosité et exotisme, leurs vêtements, leurs chapeaux et leurs montures harnachées à l’occidentale. A finely executed ink drawing on paper with calligraphic inscriptions visible on the reverse. The work depicts a horseman in period attire riding a spotted horse that is rearing up. Depictions of European merchants, Jesuits, or diplomats on horseback emerged with the arrival of the international community confined in the small Deshima island. Japanese artists portrayed them—with a sense of curiosity and exoticism—capturing their clothing, hats, and mounts fitted. Expertly framed with a beveled mat and a stained oak molding.
